944S running rich, AFM adjust?

I have successfully replaced the cylinder head on my 944 S (thanks to a little help from here) and the car is running very well except the mileage is poor and the plugs show I am running a tad rich. My experiences with EFI all are with the Datsun systems, which essentially are Bosch K-jetronics, or are megasquirted. Someday I'm gonna squirt the porsche but in the meantime I want to get this leaned out. Do you guys also need to adjust your AFM's on older cars to keep them from richening up as the springs on the flap age? Could something else be causing this? As far as I can tell, everything electronic in the EFI is hooked up right; my o2 sensor is new. I'd like to hook up to a diagnostic reader but my dealer says he doesn't have one (my local Porsche dealer butthead doesn't want to work on this car, really) and apparently the porsche system is different than standard;(although basically an M-jetronics) ordinary service stations can't read it either. Should I just go and start playing with the spring tension (is it even possible to do this on my car?) or is there a better way to go after this?

Congrats on the cylinder head replacement, thats more than most of us have done on our cars!

Rich condition after doing recent Head work and new O2 sensor... then check to make sure all the vacumn lines are sound and attached properly. Checking the engine temp sensors as well as the AFM temp sensor are all working . Reindexing the AFM spring I think may be premature and should be left as a last resort although personally I wouldn't do it.

Good Luck!

yeah I checked the lines, particularly the ones to the FPR...like I said, I'm pretty certain it's all together soundly. I know all those vacuum lines are trouble!

I assume all the basics are covered (cap, roter, plugs, wires, coil, etc).

There are procedures for doing that on clarks-garage, but I agree with mlue...it should be a last resort. Change the things he has mentioned and see what happens.
