Shipping woes
If you ship a part in perfect condition, and it is obvious that the part was damaged during shipment. Do you send them a replacement, refund, or let them deal with it? Do you wait till the claim of shipping insurance goes through, before you take any action?

If you insured the package then you shouldnt have to do anything and ups or fedex should pay for a replacement or maximum it was insured for.

as the shipper, you will have to initiate the insurance claim. I would ask your shipper who would get the claim, the shipper or the reciever...
if the reciever gets the claim, your job is done... if you get the claim, what I would do in your spot is send the guy his money back and wait for the post office to reimburse you... ask the buyer what will make him happy.. present his options, and let him choose...

USPS (postal service) is somewhat difficult for this type of ordeal. I had the unfortunate opportunity to go through getting signatures from BOTH the shipper and the receiver (me) years ago... then 12 weeks passed before USPS even issued a decision on the case.
I hope you didn't use USPS.
