removed a/c what size belt do i need??
 
remove a/c compressor,what size belt do i need to run without it. 1984 944 non turbo?

How are you going to tension the belt?

You have to get an A/C delete bracket. The alternator does not tension the belt on the combo bracket.

would it just be better to buy a used compressor?

About the same cost -- $150. If you can find a delete bracket.
