installing lexan rear window
 

my hatch glass seal is non-existant anymore. it's straight-up resting on the frame pretty much. I hit a bump and the damn thing is really loud cracking sound every time. It gets old. I'm going to have to go through the pain-staking process of resealing the glass, but I figure while it's out I'd spring for a lexan piece. One would think the lighter weight would help reduce the problem in the future.. maybe?

I gues I just want to know how hard this will really be since I can just pawn the glass off on ebay and start with a fresh clean lexan panel?

The lexan isn't very "streetable". It is easy to scratch. It will not have the insulating properties that glass does, ie it will be loud. You will lose your defroster. I have seen lots of track cars with them, and I wouldn't want one my street driven car.

In addition to the above, it will get hazy and probably yellow within a year being exposed to the elements.

Where are you and are you interested in selling or trading your hatch glass for Lexan?

Correct, UV makes Lexan yellow. I use Lexan bodies on my RC race cars - leave one in the sun for long periods, the windows loose their clearness.

What you want - is UV protection. You can get polycarbonite that won't do this. Its late - and I forget its name. :( Something like UVT, but again - I forget.

If you are concerned with scratches, I would hazard a guess you can find some sort of hard coating to do.
