Performance Upgrades For A 924S

Anyone got anything on this subject that's street legal, safe for the car, and effective? I've been told turbos and superchargers are not the way to go... and an engine swap seems way too complicated and expensive.

Anything you can offer would be helpful.

By the way, I'm not interested in buying a 944 turbo.

Best upgrade is your last sentence.

The 924S is a good car. Fresh shocks and bushings, tires and a good alignment along with chip for the DME and you are good to go.

Same engine as the 8 valve 944 so it will take any upgrades a 944 engine would- which are slim to none. Like SoCal says, just your basic maintenece and maybe a DME chip will make it just as enjoyable as any other car on the road.

I have heard good things about WEB cams in the 944. Try getting a chip a good Header setup and install a CAM, That should make your car more fun to drive. No matter what you do unless you wanna spend alot of money you wont have a big HP 944. Yes SC and turbos can be done but again they are alot of money. What kind of money u looking to spend???

For a realistic 12-18hp look at the JME cam..

Its expensive, but what isnt on our cars? A WEB cam is about $450-500. Less than the $650 JME cam..but personally i feel you know what your getting with the JME cam, some say he was born with a pair of 944 keys in his hand...

Otherwise a FRWilk DME chip will do wonders to making the car more 'fun' to drive. Better throttle response and a better powerband focused towards the low end.

I say return the once great handling car back to VERY impressive handling...
How is the suspension?
A new set of Z rated tires will also bring impressive handling back!

The car will never be fast, but it can handle with the best of cars!
Good luck/skill!

Improve the driver -- you're like one hour drive from TWO racetracks. Do some DEs -- it's amazing what a good driver can do. So far, that's been the best money spent for me.
