Remove both the eyebolts and coat the threads with antiseize.. you will never have the problem again.
I ran into the same problem and broke the alternator turn buckle.. was lucky the guy next door knew how to weld well enough to tack the eyebolt back together.

these damn things are notorious for breaking, i had a welded one also (from the p/o), and it still broke. The high volume four cylinder has so much vibration, the p/s and ac adjustors just break...i think there should be a third compensating shaft

thx for the antisieze idea!! i think the p.o. just couldn't figure it out laying upsidedown and backwards tightening the belt.
i will use my old one, and begin fabricating new ones. i did not think that the a/c one would break since it is so large, but the stresses are great with that type setup, and part of this agony is fixing the a/c when i get her back together. thx all!! tom

To tell you the truth, i get confused with which way to spin the lock nut when i want to loosen them...and thats with the car on a lift. I always figure its one of those crazy reverse threaded things....you never know with these crazy German engineers.
