924 Tach
MY 79 924 HAS GONE THROUGH 3 TACHS. WHEN REPLACED IT WORKS FOR ABOUT A DAY AND THEN IS DEAD. ANY THOUGHTS ON THE PROBLEM?

The tach gets it's signal from the dist side of the coil. Are all the ignition components stock? Or have you changed any out for high voltage aftermarket items?

Check voltages on the coil, it shouldn't be over 12 volts, more likely 11.8 or so. I don't know why but if for some reason it wold be high (I don't know why this would even be though) it might fry the tach.

Maybe the top of the coil is cracked and the HV is jumping to the dist side. Check it. How do the points look? Or is this the year they changed to a hall sensor???

if the high voltage was jumping to the dist side that could be potentially dangerous to the motronic computer as the wire also connects there.
