Perhaps others can comment on their experiances with after market engine mounts. I replaced mine five years ago with aftermarket. The clearances still look good.

Local driver swore that the balance pulleys were on correctly. Found the top one 180 out. Same vibes around 3,000 rpm. Vibrations eventually cracked the fuel rail.

In any normal situation I would agree but when Istook did the belt drive and all the car was perfect. So when the time came to replace the belts I did so but only replaced the BS tensioning roller and the 2 belts, all else is original from when Istook did them. So if what you say is the case I would have noticed the vibration 4 years ago on the trip up from Texas. Other wise I would take your lead on this and re do the pulleys correctly.
Now you can see why I am perplexed. Thanks! Happy Fourth! Dal

What chart did you use to align the balance shaft pulleys?

I have Porsche manuals. But I just set them according to the tabs and knotches. But wondering if the BS tension roller is a cause, there are 2 types, one has a round hole the other is ogblong, my original one is round but iirc the new one oblong. But still don't think that makes a difference, just grasping.
If the rear cover is supposed to be absolutely tight against the block then I may have where the tab is in the wrong postion. My cover is somewhat flexible moving it fr to rear it can change the position of the tab a tooth or so. But what would help me is a way to keep the alignment and get the tension right because every time I get the tabs in line the tension needs tweaking then it all over again till get lucky! Dal

Hard to get them out of alignment using the marks on the rear cover. The pitch of the belt is a good 1/4". You would notice something wrong. At least you should notice something.

Probably both hydraulic fluid filled.
Only way to be 100% certain is to take 'em out. But if you do that, might as well replace with new ones. The opposite side (rubber) may have collapsed. Rubber or Spring centered clutch? How's your transmission mount in the back? 100% certain your balance shaft is aligned correctly?

Good clutch /spring centered. Tranny mounts are in spec. Yep no rubber on the header side mount in the rounded bevel shown on the picture. I am going to place a jack under the header and lift the engine to look for any visable movement/play. If the alignment is off it is because the cover is giving me the wrong tab location. Both pulley notches are absolutely dead on the marks.
Tom ...no pics-no camera. I need to invest in one! Time to dump this motor ans swap for the Ford Falcon st8 6,it wont vibrate! Dal Dal

Thanks for the downgrade offer but I am just going to turbo the straight six and go 3 speed sequential shifter.

It's your chassis. As there were less than 9,000 of the 924S made I would think keeping it stock has more value than changing out the power plant. Put the turbo in a Tarus and really suprize someone.
