924s DME
My '88 924s has a fried DME, but ive found a used replacement is going to be expensive and hard to come by. Someone here mentioned I could use the DME AND the air flow meter from an earlier 944 or 924s and make it work, but I couldn't find the post by searching.
So my questions are: Has anyone something like this? What will it change about my car's power / mpg/ etc.? At what cost $$? Thanks as always. -Gabe

88 924S DME part number: 944 618 121 05.
It's the higher compression.

Sure it's the DME? If so they can be rebuilt. Make sure you replace the DME relay as well.

SoCal- how does the higher compression affect what DME i need? Does the 88 DME inject more fuel/air to take advantage of the higher compression?
Thanks Bitwrench, ive been through everything else- reference sensor, wiring, and already replaced the relay, so I will look into rebuilding.

The fuel injection and timing maps in the 88 dme are tuned to the higher compression motor vs. the lower compression in the earlier motors.
If you put the earlier brain in, it will work, but poorly. Plan on losing about 15 bhp at peak if you use the early brain. You should put the right ecu in your car. They may be fairly rare, but not so rare that they cannot be found.

I've got a good '88 DME ECU. Make me a reasonable offer and it's yours
