PART VII Megasquirt 944 Turbo 315 rwhp / 320 lbft First Dyno Session

Part VI : Previous update

Finally JustinL and I got around to taking the megasquirt 944 turbo to the dyno.

It took a number of runs to figure out that my aftermarket knocksensor was wired to by pass my tuning software ........OOOOOPS So I would have ignition retard at 5500 rpm

But finally in the last 2 runs we obtained a good baseline of our tuning efforts.

By this point the car was fairly warm...... the shop was at 90F but we still managed to produce 315 Rwhp and 320 lbft of torque.

For those that like crank hp and torque..... thats ~340hp 350 lbft.

With plenty on the table to squeeze out of this setup.

I will post the dyno charts once I figure out how to read the format for the images.

Thats great! How much boost are you running and hwo do you think that would compare to an engine running the same amount of boost but with the stock computer?

Great project

Yep, we spent about 45 minutes chasing our tails because MS2 was telling us nothing changed at 5800, but power dropped by 100rwhp.

The runs were done with an equivalent boost pressure of 16psi at sea level. Up here thats 17 psi over our atmosphere. IMHO that is a pretty conservative tune on Alex's turbo. With the right level of boost and full revs to 6500RPM there should be an easy 340-350RWHP.

I forget how ferocious a 951 sounds on the dyno with a big turbo sucking in all the air.

It was definitely quite a loud roar.

What?
I wanna see a 24psi run ;P

Can't say much though, my turbo is still sitting on my desk, lol.
It does look pretty sitting there though.

You need the Dynojet run viewer.

http://www.powercommander.com/images/viewer/RunViewer7.0.1.0.zip

Just screen capture the image and save as a gif to save space.

So is the knocknsense working correctly with MS2 now?

Were you able to add some more timing back in, now that its working?

was the knock sensor showing voltage? I know mega squirt can ignore knock in the upper ranges of rpm if you choose it to because of regular valve train noise.

So, in theory if you take it to the drag strip it should run a 12.6 @ 108 mph.

However, launching may bring the times up to the low 13's and mph should remain close to 105-108 mph range.

Of course we all know Alex would never abuse his car like that!!

I might have mentioned this before, but did you ever check out the possibility of using pin 15 on the DME for knock detection?

http://www.motronic944.com/knock.htm

It appears to output a perfect signal for the MS, 0 to 5v.

Hey guys,

I had the knocksense wired up wrong..... OOOPS

Now its wired right....... It actually works well. Just need to fine tune it further.

Ian I am not sure about that pin15. I remember reading it was just noise and did not produce a signal......let alone a 0v-5v signal?

If it does then we could probably wire it up on Justins car to log it, I don't have my KLR wired up any longer... Justin are you listening.
