Steering wheel on crooked :\

My steering wheel splines do not line up correctly to allow for a straight steering wheel.

It's like 3 degrees off... Which may seem alright, but it gets my panties all in a bunch....

Any ideas?

Thanks guys,
-Alex

You can remedy the problem by using the toe in toe out adjustments under the car. Just be careful and don't mess up the alignment.

Send a message via Yahoo to Crumpled952
Or you can pull your horn pad off and use a 24mm socket to pull the wheel and straighten it out the easy way.

If the front has been aligned and the steering wheel displaced because of that alignment, then the alignment was done improperly. If the steering wheel is off because the steering link shaft was removed from the steering rack and put back on improperly indexed then take the steering wheel off (as suggested) and re-align it. If the steering wheel is crooked because the front suspension was removed and not aligned after it was re-installed then get a proper alignment. Note: a "proper alignment" involves the use of a special pointed bolt.

Right, I tried removing the steering wheel and fixing it the "easy" way, however the splines don't line up...

So is an alignment the only way?

it might be off a tooth or 2, pull it off and do it again.

and then you really need an alignment and didn't fix the original problem.

Worked on mine just fine. The wheel was either a little to the left or a little to the right depending on how I put the steering wheel on. I suspect I did not index the connecting link correctly. A little compensation at the front wheels using the toe in/out adjustments centered it up. Could someone explain technical reasons why this cannot be done to compensate and correct steering wheel position. Seems to me you can compensate a wee bit at either end of the system without messing up alignment.

My tire wear is even, and I did it 50K miles ago.
