Factory car alarm location?

Hi, I'm trying to find the alarm in my car, an 87 944, I have read that this is located in the footwell, passenger side, where exactly is this?, under the carpet or under the dash?, I know this sounds dumb, but I didn't know where to look at...

Under the carpet -- passenger foot rest. Might be behind the glove box.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

sorry for temporary hijack.. but when installing a new head unit into my car, i yanked out the old one and looked behind it - there's a box with wires coming out of it that has the porsche script on it, and says something about the alarm..... what is this thing?

Hugh, I have about 7 frustrated threads dealing with the damn factory alarm that was in my 83.

Eldo, if it's about the size of a pack of cigarettes and has about 10 wires coming out of it, it's probably the alarm.

I've got one too and while it hasn't caused any problems yet, I sure would like to know how to properly uninstall it without creating a mess.

Isn't the radio relay back there as well.
It's a little bigger than a pack of smokes.
