Well, this is why they aren't drag cars. (vid)
So I gave into some shenanigans with a guy named Andy in a Volvo 850 Turbo. He's a gearhead and likes euro cars, and asks if I'd like to take a drive.
Take a drive to someone in Porsche usually brings thoughts of curves and twisties. Thats not what he had in mind. I was thoroughly impressed with what his car has going on with it. I believe it's a 2.4 litre 5 cylider, turbo, pushing 15psi. he's making approx. 260 HP according to him. I don't doubt it. So for your viewing pleasure, watch as I get whooped by this thing on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkP2LMmQ9PE To my effect, rolling starts suck, but watch the second run, I light 'em up in second, and you really hear that nice Porsche sound, compared to the refridgerator motor sound of the volvo... Note he listed my car as being a normal 924, so that makes me look a bit better I guess. But for going up against a car with 100 more horsepower, I say I did nicely. I offered to take him on some twisties. He declined, knowing what the outcome of that would be, ![]()

Sweet vid, IM surprised you did that good on a stock 924S he only had about a cars lenght on you. Be careful when you chirp gears like you did, I had to relearn how to drive cus I was to hard on the tranny and poped 2 of them.

My ex had a 850T and they are in my opinion slightly faster than a stock 944 or 924S.
They can however be made to produce some serious power, ive seen some videos of them lighting up the tires at highway speeds.

Nice to see the 924S can do that well vs. a Volvo Turbo.
BTW Techno.. I love the videos you put up on youtube, especially the donuts vid with flames out of the exhaust.

Thanks Craig, happy you enjoy them. I dont remember exactly whos car it was but he frequents the Rennlist forum. I have a couple of other cool videos of it that i will upload.
My particular favorite part of that video is when he drives off screen and you hear a backfire, the entire surrounding area lights up!

Andy, the owner of the Volvo, has dome some slight modifications to the intake system, and has installed a pretty nifty boost controller I believe. I doubt stock 850T's run at 15psi.... do they? Seems a bit much for everyday use.
I have ridden in the car and to be honest It was hard to tell how fast it was being a passenger. It is an automatic but it pulls strong for an auto. But the video tells all I guess. The 850T's were awarded the name of being 5th Gear's best Sleeper Car. I'd say that's about right. And about the shifting, that was my dumb fault. I actually tapped the limiter as it came up faster than I had though, since on the 2nd pass I downshifted and started in 1st instead of 2nd (we were going slower)... On a standing start, the 924S would have been off the line much quicker than his car I believe. Quote:

As far as the 850T to a 924S ... I don't think you could get two more different looking cars side by side.

lol, funny you mention the smart car. I just saw a video on google videos of a smart car stripped out with a 1100cc streetbike engine in it. Search for it on google video, its worth seeing. Think 13000 rpm go kart.
