S Reference Sensor Help

I am working on an intermittent hard/no start issue with my 16V. I may be having a problem with my ref sensor. I've taken off the manifold and want to make sure it is in adjustment but I don't see a way to adjust. Can someone confirm that the S doesn't have a height adjustment? If not, does anyone have any idea why, upon turning the key instead of bouncing the tach goes up to 6000 rpm briefly?

Thanks for the help!
Peter

The S and S2 motors do have a height adjustment, 0.8 mm, just like the 8 valve cars.

Get a mirror. The whole bracket moves. It's bolted to the back of the engine.

A little off the subject of sensors, but I did happen to come across the sunfoor part you needed(the little microswitchs in the rear, and the grey pressure switch in the front). So the next wrenching GTG I'll have it with me. Also if you talk to Bill let him know I may have found him a inexpensive cam for his turbo.

Hugh and George,

Thank you very much for the advice. I never even thought of a tool with a mirror on the end and easily found one at the local store. I know that the gap needs to be .8 but I can't find the adjustment screw to adjust the whole sensor up and down. However, I did find a hole bunch of tiny shavings on the bottom of the sensor. I cleaned them off and replaced the sensor and she started right up!

This led me to more questions. Where do these shavings come from? Should the holes that are highlighted in the pic be closed with some sort of plug to prevent anything from getting in the way of this sensitive sensor signal?

Shavings come from flywheel teeth and starter bendix gear "meshing".
