AC is COLD!!!!!!

AC was dead, and right now in Eastern NC (let alone anywhere on the east coast) its just too damn hot. Took it in and had it converted (R134A). It now blows CCCCCOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDDD!!!!!!!.

I'm gonna do this to my Bimmer this weekend. Exactly what was involved?

Johnny, did you tackle the bimmer's AC? I need to do this soon too and there is so much feedback on both sides.

I just talked to a local guy here and he ended up taking his 44S to the dealer and had it recharged with the original R12 to find a leak. I think he said he also talked with people from auto atlanta or similar. Apparently, the leak was a common easy to fix leak and it was less expensive to stay with the R12 than to convert. Since it gets over 120 here the cooling advantages of R12 are tough to ignore. Let us know what you ended up with.

Well could not get it recharged with R12 the shop no longer had any left. They had to change the fittings. Used dye to test for leaks, and recharged w/R134A. Took it in on a Tues Morn and picked it up that evening. Cost me 250 bucks, but was well worth it here in Southeastern NC and I did not have to do it.

Bill,

Does that price include the conversion?! I thought that some of the fittings had to be changed and oil had to be added. I hadn't heard that it could be done so inexpensively. The important thing is that it's cold!

My mechanic just converted me over to R-134a for 1.6 hours labor and the price of oil and coolant, about $194 total. It blows as cold as my 2000 Dodge. I would have had it done a long time ago except the previous owner told me it needed thousands of $ in work.
