Coming Soon! The new and improved CHITOWN944

Ladies and gentlemen without anymore cussing whatsoever. This is my future 944. Its an 86 Turbo with 115k on the clock. I will pick it up as soon as my State Farm check clears. As many of you may know my 85.5 NA was totaled 2 wednesdays ago. I gotta tell you it was pretty sad to see her all wrecked but I believe every negative generates a positive even though I wasn't thinking that for at least a week. I'll keep her location under wraps so nothing happens to her. The PO has many receipts and a PPI was done last year with repairs made.

HERE SHE IS!!!!!!!!

Nice, I like the 16" Fuchs. I can't wait to see it and go for a ride. I am glad it worked out for you in the end although I am still sad about your old 944.

When I totaled my first 944 I thought it was the end of the world at the time. Family and friends were concerned. The dog hid from me. Troubled times had come.

I picked up my current 944S and all that bad stuff was barely a memory. I'm sure you'll feel the same soon enough with your new 951!! Be sure to keep those Fuchs on the car - that is such a classic look. We want more picks when you officially pick it up, too!

OK..now I'm jealous. Nice looking car, can I borrow it on weekends? Hey is that a street number above that garage...or how about another picture...say from the back so we can clearly read the license plate. This is the Chitown we all know and respect...glad to see things are better. Didn't even consider any other car, did you?

I don't know if it would be appropriate to ask, but-

Are you having to buck up a lot in addition to the State Farm check for the new turbo? Or is the insurance paying out a nice amount? I have never had a car totaled and have never been in a situation where I was gived a check for a whole car.

My 89 Toyota SR5 was backed into once at a gas station. The insurance check came total to about 600$, and the damage was a softball sized dent in the hood and a crack in the fiberglass bumper...

That is my only experience with insurance claims (not a nice one either, the guy who hit me tried claiming that one of the dents was there before he hit me.... lot of phone calls were made hastilly.)

Actually I had to fight for my settlement and prove its worth. Luckily I was able to prove that their initial offering was short. I'm actually left with an extra $87 after all is said and done. The Porsche gods must have felt my pain and threw some luck my way after a miserable week.

My '85 was valued at $4,200 by the insurance company of the guy who totaled it, I paid $4,000 for it about a year before it was hit. No work except an AC hose, oil changes, and keeping washed and vacuumed. I loved that car, kept it spotless!

So may I ask what is happening to your old 944? Do you have the option to buy it back? Would the buy back $ be a good deal? I remember you cookies being in real nice condition because you just redid them. Hmmmm. Parts car for the 948 project????

I still have the 944. Contemplating on selling it. I have an offer for 1k by my neighbor mechanic. I'd like at least 1500. I bought it for $487. Yes and shes still driveable. Call me crazy but I went and washed her last nite. A Saturn pulled up next to me as if he wanted to race. So she went down swinging. Beat the Saturn. Either he was staring at the wreck(pass side) from his side or I just nailed him.

Strip the drivetrain, take the wheel and steering assemblies and build it into a locost seven racer. I have always wanted to do that with a 944 engine because of the torquiness of the engine paired with the rear transmission. Plenty of people are building locost 7's but noone has done it with a rear mounted transmission.

Search for a combo these terms on google if you don't know what I'm talking about- Locost 7 Ron Champion

What about keeping it and making it into a V-8 project car? You can replace the rear fenders with WIDE fiberglass from GT racing this way you can fit monster rear tires in the rear.
