'86 944 w/ '89 944S Turbo engine
While picking up my 924, my Porsche mechanic, Kurt, at Kurt's German Autowerks said he had something available that I may be interested in: an '86 944 with an '89 944S turbo engine that is set up for Drivers Ed.
The car was restored by someone in MI, who sold it to the current owner who lives in IL. Per Kurt, the current owner has gone through 4-5 clutches since buying the car and while taking a ride with the owner, he found out why, the guy doesn't know how to properly drive stick shift. Now the car is for sale. The first $5K takes it and it does need some clutch work. The body is straight and has no rust, it has a fiberglass hood and front nose, leather interior (no rips), the dash was good, etc. I didn't take it for a ride or anything yet, nor did I take any pictures. You all are much more experienced with these opportunities than I. What are your initial thoughts on this vehicle given the limited info I offered? What are the pitfalls I should consider? (aside from typical front engine maintenance) I will need to spend at least $5k to bring the body of my 924S up to the same condition as the 944 and she'll never be as fast as a Turbo.
