944 Insurance in Ontario

I'm getting a little fed up trying to insure this car lol

I cant find any place that'll insure a 20 years old car of any kind let alone a Porsche.

Surely my fellow Pelicanites North of the border arent driving without insurance lol

Any suggestions?? Who do you use? Should I be looking for a classic car mutuality?

Are you looking for comprehensive or liability? With the value of the car, I use Liability only. I have enough in savings, I can more then replace my 944 should it be rendered inoperable by my own fault.

Im probably just gonna end up going with liability as well.

But like I said, first I need to find a company that will offer me any kind of insurance for a car this old. I never counted on it being this much of a pain

http://www.lant-ins.ca/silver.html

I have coverage through lant insurance under thier silver wheels program. Its full coverage but is limited to occasional use. Dont drive the car to walmart, or for work (why would you want to) but other wise you are covered. You also need to have another car that will serve as your daily driver. My last 944 was totaled and was covered by lant, the process was simply and easy. I would highly recommend them.

The big possitive with lant is that the coverage is based on an appraisal (which you pay for) but it guarantees a pay out for the appraised amount if something very bad should happen. now here is the good news for $10,000 appraised value you are looking at around $200.

Dammit! Thanks Dave, but the Silver Wheels plan requires that you have 10 years of driving experience. Im lookin to insure her as a daily driver or at least some liability with unlimited mileage will do lol

Eldorado, could you gimme a little more info on ur TD policy? Im with that bank now, so thatd be much appreciated.

my father drives a company car, and thus doesn't actually have a car registered in his name. to save on costs, the car is insured with him being the primary, and me secondary. there's no extra cost for me being a secondary because i was already a secondary driver on the policy (my mom's car).

my dad is 59 years old, next to perfect driving record, and is an engineer. with the "professional" discount, and only covering liability, it's $70/month.

why will they not insure a 944? I had an 1986 325 insured through PCInsurance. I only had the basic coverage but if I wanted full coverage i would have to get a basic appraisal from a mechanic to assess its value. They also wanted to see a safety to insure it. It really shouldnt be tough, try a broker if you are getting the run around when going directly to ins co's.

same deal here...
with cars that are 20+ years old in ontario, to put anything more than 3rd party liability on it means you must get an appraisal form, and a copy of the safety paperwork.

Hey there Blondie!

Sorry just always wanted to say that.

I've got a 1989 S2 that I've got insured with Co-Operators and there's never been any problem. Mind you I have had it for around 8 years.
I had it appraised by Bruce Farrow with PCA last year and just dropped off the appraisal with Co-Op.

I also have a friend who works for another insurance company... let me know what you've been told and I can check with her.

If you prefer email me at mtaberner@rogers.com ( I don't check this site that often. )

I've been insured by two different groups over the past 4 years. All they required for comprehensive insurance was an appraisal, no questions asked after that. I paid $75 for the appraisal. Currently I'm with Meloche Monnex.

Dave

I live just south of Barrie, my car is a black S2 Cabriolet. It hasn't been out much this year and I can't say that I've ever seen a grey S around town.

My sister lives in the South end just east of Yonge and the car is over there quite often.

Maybe if the weather improves I might see you out on the roads.

Thanks for all the info guys

Im currently doing my banking with TD..kinda overlooked them so I'll give em a call and see whats up.

PC I've called before but maybe I just wasnt asking the right questions? Regardless, I'll give all these places a shot...then I'll have to decide on the lesser of these evils: I can only imagine what they'll want to charge a 19 yr old with a Porsche :s

Im teetering on the comprehensive...have to see what the price difference is with it vs. without.

(On the bright side, Im not insuring a turbo and I've long since gone through drivers training to cut insurance costs for this very car lol)
