Funny (sort of) Registration story

Got the 951 through emissions/inspection today. Passed with flying colors.

I had some extra time, so I decided to run down to the DMV to get the permanent registration taken care of.

When the lady at the counter was going through the paperwork, she said, "oh, your model number is 944?"

"um. Yeah?"

"It's too bad you weren't just a minute earlier in getting here. The guy that was right in front of you got a plate number starting with '944'"

Well, I guess I'll have to settle for "945..."

svandamme 09-27-2006 02:09 PM

why didn't you talk her in to reserving 951 instead??

could have waited around for those 5 plates to get dished out , no?

CT DMV is not a fun place to be ;-)

CJFusco 09-27-2006 07:54 PM

Yeah, I've been through such an ordeal just getting this car, I am happy the process is finally over. I did think up a pretty funny pneumonic device to remember the rest of the plate, however.

Ford-o-phobic 09-27-2006 07:58 PM

What is it?

CJFusco 09-27-2006 08:17 PM

should i really go telling everyone online what my registration plate reads?

Ford-o-phobic 09-27-2006 08:39 PM

Oh yea im going to drive across the country and steal your car. Isnt it sad that people cant trust people anymore? Im not blaming you cj im blaming people who would steal other cars, cough*turby*cough.

Registered my car on Tuesday this week. The RI DMV is one of if not THE worst in the country. I went in at 8:30AM (time they open) and left at..... 1:45PM!!!!!!!

CJFusco 09-28-2006 06:48 AM

To be honest, i've never had a problem with posting pics of my car and its license plate online... but I have heard some horror stories...

Tervuren 09-28-2006 08:11 AM

I sometime want to get a phonenumber with 944. :)

Anaxagoras1986 09-28-2006 08:48 AM

Seems only neccessary since you have afamily of 44s! That's awesome!

CJFusco 09-28-2006 10:07 AM

my roommate has a "944" cell phone number

AFJuvat 09-28-2006 01:05 PM

how the hellcan you steal someone's car by knowing the plate number?!?! absurd! iknow the plate number of the car in front of me every day.

91S2 09-28-2006 06:03 PM

with a little work or know-how, you can find a person's address via their license plate. yes... you could just follow the person home and watch them park. But why make it any easier for some bad guy who could be hypothetically poking around in this forum or any other?

Dtchy 09-28-2006 06:18 PM

I just realized I live in area code 951... :) My cell phone number is 818 though...

That's actually quite cool...

The thing is, it realy only matters if you keep something in your car worth stealing, or have a car worth stealing. If someone has a $200K car that someone may want to take for a "drive", then protecting its location becomes very understandable. If I kept my Remote Control Racing equipment in my car, I'd not want where it parks known either.(But I don't that stuff is kept safe, worth more then my 944).

roadierfl 09-28-2006 09:53 PM

I'll throw mine in (DE registered car)

The first 3 digits are the social security prefix for Deluwhere,
and the last 3 are 951

Didn't ask for that either, just was the next plate in line @ DMV :D
