Unhappy Glovebox Door Supports

Okay, what are all of you 944/968 owners doing to fix the broken/missing glove box door supports?

I made new ones form aluminium sheet and screwed them into the door, but you can buy them from places like Pelican and Prestige Parts in the UK.

Sounds great! How about a photo and some dimensions? Thanks!

I'll see what I can dig up over the weekend. All I did was take the old plastic pieces and put them on some sheet, traced and cut them out, allowing some extra length to bend over the bottom so I could screw them in.

I cannot find the Pelican listing now, but did find another one from 944 Online. Both those from 944 Online and Prestige Parts look really good (better than what I made).

Prestige Parts in the UK

944 Online

Cheers

I made mine from 1/8" sheet steel. I just took a broken one, traced it on the steel (left some at the end to bend 90º and screw into the door), cut it out with an angle grinder/Dremel, and painted it with black Plastikote.

That could work, except the PO threw the broken parts away! Could I get the approximate dimensions, and then I will do a pattern from those. I saw what they looked like on the 944Online site....just don't know how big to make them! I like the coating with Plastikote idea! I have a bottle, so that part would be like for free!

I bought the ones from 944online.com. They're rock solid and very easy to install. Only the alignment takes a little time to get right.

From what I know, Pelican doesn't carry these.

All I can say is definitely worth the money.

I got off the couch, put shoes on and trudged out to the 944 wreck here. Then I ambled to the shop for a screwdriver. Went back to the wreck. Had to go back to the shop for a shorter screwdriver. By this time I was getting chilly so I sauntered up to the house for a jacket. Then I went back to the wreck and took out the glovebox in it, leaving the screwdriver on the rusty wreck's floor. The glovebox made it up to the house for a cleaning. One of the kids found the screwdriver and waved it at me so I put it on the microwave. The glovebox sat on the dishwasher for a while...

You get the idea. I think I need a life.

Next time I'll stay on the couch and buy from 944online I think.

Sooooo... Did you finally get a glovebox door support for me to copy, or was that a hint that I should just give Ian a call? I already paid for his new fishing boat (complete parts for timing/balance shaft belt job and clutch job from the master cylinder all the way thru the flywheel). He would probably just give me the glove box door supports, but I like doing things the hard way! Besides, I think I can make a better set! A Photo with dimensions would probably work!
