Timing Belt Get together? NJ NY PA CT?

Anyone in the Northeast, NJ, NY, PA, ect want to arrange a get together for a timing belt(s)?

my timing belt has about 5K on it, i think it was done in EITHER 04 or 03! i have to check the records when i get home.

this looks like a job that id like to walk through one with someone in the know....

i do know that all the rollers/ tensioners, and seals were done the last time the belt was put on. infact they did ALL the VALVES at the same time! (coincidence?!)

there doesnt appear to be many 944 folks by me, but id certainly be willing to drive.... Im in Ocean County NJ...

How far are you from NYC? I have done a couple of belt jobs and can help you do it in a afternoon. Of course as an advisor, thats it. I used to do these for money but i figure its not worth liability.

I have all of the specialized tools including the tensioner.

I can certainly buy lunch/beer/drinks bring tools ect. my garage isnt heated but its roomy. i dont have the specialty tools, but can get them. Im not too far from the city, im about 45min south of the tunnels (Hoboken).

like i said, i can drive the car as not to inconvenience.

i read clarks garage and its pretty involved, i read arnnworx and he makes it seem as casual as making sure your at TDC, then loosening the spring tensioner spring and slipping a new belt on... its a tough call to do on my own, or to get together with someone...

thoughts?

Its really not hard to do. If you can change the exhaust and have the confidence to try the CV joint you can do this. Its really not rocket science as much people make it out to be. Clarks-Garage makes it seem indepth because its a very detailed writeup.

First timer changing the belts, i would say 8 hours or so.

You are probably about an hour and 15-30 minutes from me. Id rather do it at your place. Dont want your car stuck at mine ...

I'd be willing to drive down for something like this if you let me know far enough in advance. I've only done this procedure once, so I'm not sure how much help I'd be...

I might be interested in coming along. I'm due for a belt change soon and have been debating whether I should try it myself or fork over the cash to have someone do it. I won't bring any experiance to the party, but I can bring my charming personality

I'm probably a good 3 hours away, but this the closest belt party to where I live, that I've seen.

so wed have a bunch of guys, all in their late 20's standing around three cars scratching their heads?! im in zip code 08724, like i said, my place is open for service, but im also willing to drive somewhere if its more central or works better for a few of us.

id temp you guys with scenic drives by the beach, but its cold out now! theres no 'sceanery' walking around there anymore

CJ i think youd bring the most experience to the table.... all kidding aside.

one of us would need the timing belts tools.... im willing to buy them if i need to...

id also need to know in advance too, my schedule sucks.

Depending when we do this i can come down and help you guys. I have all the tools and plenty of experience.

The problems are i am only available on weekends and i severley dislike working in the cold. I wont be available for probably the next 2-3 weeks as i am working on changing the blown headgasket on my car.

I talked with EMBPilot about this last night and i am also not to keen on driving 2.5 hours down to his place. If you guys could get this closer to northern NJ that would be better.

Come on, I'm sure that between the lot of us SOMEBODY has a propane heater.

Yes, I have done the procedure before. I don't have the tensioner tool, but I know the general procedure, and do most of my own car repairs/maintenance myself... so I would be SOME help, but would feel a whole lot better if there was a more experienced mechanic in the house.

I'm right off the wesley drive exit of route 15. Technically I'm outside of Mechanicsburg in upper allen township. Glad to see someone else from my area here, there aren't that many 924/944's running around here that I've seen.

Well I know of three 944's by my house. One guy has a white one in town.(don't know him) There is a black/dark blue one that drives past my house once in a while.(don't know him either) I'm usually outside and here the exhaust-It is just a totaly different sound between a normal car and a 924/944! I also know a kid at the ice rink I work at that has a red '85.5 944. He got his a couple weeks after I got mine, but his was krappy till he put about $6,000 into the motor. But its nice to walk out of the rink and see a 924S and 944 sitting next to each other there in the sunset! Its not too often you see this around here!

Like i said, i really wouldnt mind driving down if its closer to northern Jersey and we can work somewhere indoors. I am outside enough freezing my ass off right now doing my headgasket.

I dont mean to sound like a jerk, but a 2.5 hour drive really isnt worth my time. Id do maybe an hour or an hour and a half.

Might be willing to host a belt party here. Pretty much a mid point between everybody. I have a large heated garage. With a fridge for juice and soda.

Somebody just has to bring the brass pole and strippers!

I am looking into purchasing a 944 and would like to document this process for when I have to change it. I can bring the burgers...

I would absolutely be up for this in North NJ, would go to an event in south NJ... but PA is a little far for me.
