Why do Parking lights Stay on when I turn car off?

This is my second question of the evening.
When my turn signal is left on and I turn off the motor, the lamp remains on until I put the steering column turn signal switch to the center position.
ALSO, when the Headlights switch is left on and I turn the ignition off, my parking lights stay ON.
WHY????
Again, THANKS!!!

Mine do the same...

I don't think it's a flaw in the car, I believe it was engineered that way.

Not sure why I guess...

These are safety measures built in for short term parking. It's so's you're less likely to have your car run into when parked up in poorly lit areas.

Streets in Europe are really narrow, and the idea was to leave one side or the other on if you were poking out a bit, so you don't get scraped.

Lot's of cars lights stay on when the ignition is off, but the 944 kills the headlights.

It's all designed that way.

when I fist found out about this, I tried it on my 2004 BMW. That does it too. Pretty cool feature.

Mercedes does the same with the main headlight switch. Turn it CCW one click and only right side parking lights come on (ignition off). Turn it CCW two clicks and only left side parking lights are on. Turning switch CW does nothing unless ignition switch is on.

Leaving only one side on uses less juice. It's a European thing.

I thought I had read on this site or rennlist that leaving those parking lights on could result in burning up the wiring harness? Anyone else read that?

Yeah, it's about parking in narrow Euro streets; common practice is to park with one side of the car up on the sidewalk, straddling the curb. You can leave the one side indicator on to mark the outside of your car so hopefully no-one hits it. 924's have been like this since day 1.

I wouldn't be worried about burning up the wiring harness with stock lights.
