DME temp sensor
 

I have an 83, 944 and am trying to change the DME temp sensor. The bolt is a allen head, and it stripped out. The position makes it hard to get any tools on it, of course. Any suggestions?:mad:

Are you sure it's the DME temp sensor? Should just need a standard box-end wrench for it, or a deep socket. Where is the part you're trying to remove? Sorry, not trying to be difficult, just need some clarification.

I have a picture from Clarks-Garage.com and I am in the right place, but the bolts are allen, not hex head. Maybe they have been replaced before?

Also: How do you know your problem is the temp sensor?

I can't see what the sensor looks like until I get it out, but what I am trying to get apart is what the picture from "Clarks" looks like. I have been having intermittant problems for years when my car dies going down the road. At first it was just a hesitation, but got worse until I sometimes had to pull over and wait until it wanted to start. Finially it wouldn't start at all. I have had 3 porsche machanics work on it. They had no clue. I talked to someone in a porsche club and they said DME relay. I have replaced that, and am just going to the next thing on the list of problems I was told to check.

well, before you remove it you can just check to see if its working properly with a multimeter, Its pin connections it's pin 13 on the DME wire harness i'll have to check the ohm rating but its like 1.45-3k ohm up to 30 Degrees Celcius (80oF). and like 200-300+ ohms at like 175 o Ferinheight. It's much easier then removing the DME temp sensor, b.c you got to bleed out the air you just got in and that's just no fun and alot of work. I know, i've done it before, so i just did a few simple tests with a multimeter and checked. the DME temp Sensor, Air flow meter, Throttle position switch and Auxilary air valve and all apear to be ok except i dunno how to read infinity on my meter to know if the throttle switch is good :P

Allen head sounds like you are in the speed sensor area. Dead center rear of engine.

That is my feeling too. I thnk it's time to back up to square one and do a proper testing procedure. This could all be a flaky ingition switch.
