Rear hatch opening

I am having a problem that I have not seen posted on this forum before. I was driving back from the Gator game today and I noticed my rear hatch was open. I stopped and closed it, and resumed driving. A couple of miles later, the hatch was open again. The switch does not appear to be stuck, but the hatch opened on its own 3 more times before I got home. Tomorrow I will pull the switch and check it, and also check for bare or crossed wires. Has anyone out there ever had this same problem? I have not had any previous problems with the hatch or the switch.

Check your latches first. They're adjustable.

I had this problem also...I've had luck putting the key in and wiggling it a little..The latch wasn't going all the way by itself...

You could always unhook the wires to the motor to make sure but it's probably not an electrical problem. Probably the latch mechanisms. I had to regrease mine periodically to make sure they slide properly.

I have this problem right now as well. I've gone through several hatches and the most recent doesn't like to stay down. For just a temporary fix I un-latch one of the hatch struts. I will adjust the latch after some PB Blaster soaks in there.

Thanks for the help and ideas.....I opened the hatch and looked at the latches and they both appeared to be rusty. I sprayed them with WD40 and opened and closed the hatch a few times. Took it for a ride and the hatch is now staying closed. Hopefully problem is solved.

The hatch has Mushroom shaped Plugs. The trunk has Females. Mushroom wear the forward side down. Females also goes outta round. I think if you Rotate the Mushroom 90 or 180 degrees would help. But I have never tried this. May need to swap left and right ones if they are non-symetrical.
Let us know if this works.
