I'm not sure if the option was available in 87. I have an 87 and there is no air bag on it althougth there is a light for air bag in the instrument cluster which I ASSUME means it was available as an option.

My '87 has no airbag.

Most '87 Turbo's came with a passenger and driver side airbag as standard (it was the first car to offer this).

If the steering wheel says SRS on it, you have an airbag.

On 87 944 and 87 944S cars, airbags were an additional cost option.

the steering wheel will NOT say SRS on it, it will say airbag on it, though. if the middle of the steering wheel is less than 4" top to bottom you have no airbag, if it is larger, you do. if there are seperate horn buttons on the right and left of the part that says 'porsche' on it, you have an airbag. if its just one big pad that is the horn button, you have no airbag. if you have a light that says airbag on it that stays on when the cars computer systems are initializing, you have an airbag.

if you punch the steering wheel repeatedly, and it punches back, you have an airbag, and it just deployed. do a search on pictures, and look at 1987 and after 951s with stock steering wheels, and you will see what an airbag wheel looks like.
