WTB: seat parts and mechanic recommend

Hi all,

been hiding for a while, I'm now in lovely Falls Church, VA. I STILL have not fixed the awful vibration in my 944. I need a recommend for a good P-car mechanic in the area because I just haven't a clue what it could be. All the mechanics I've taken it too claim the vibes don't exist but I drove up to Towson and back yesterday and at 80 MPH you can't hardly hear yourself think because of the magic fingers - it wasn't like this when I bought it! Anywhere between Falls Church and Sterling (Dulles Airport) would be fine.

Also my driver's seat is posessed, anyone got a good switch assembly for the half-power seat (manual fore/aft and recline and power height adjustment) or better yet a whole damn seat bottom in black would be great. this is for an '88 NA. The switches have been busted for a while, which was no big deal because I was the only person who ever drove the car. But the seat started adjusting itself while I was driving yesterday, which is highly not cool.

thanks,

nate

Cant help you with the seat but Ive had pretty good luck with taking my car to RPM in Newington when I need a shop to do work. 703 550 8240. They definitely know their way around a 944. They typically schedule appts at least a week in advance.

Thanks for the recommend, I'll check 'em out.

There apparently is a Porsche specialty shop on Spring St. in Fairfax - anyone have experience with them? That would be more convenient to me geographically...

I asked a recycler friend of mine about the switches...couldn't look them up on his locator. I can find many recyclers and provide some numbers if you would like. I would just set the up and down where you want it and then unhook the motor for now. You can find those switches on ebay from time to time as well.

If nobody comes up with anything I'll just call Parts Heaven when things settle down a little at work (I had to take the whole day off today to get new DL, registration, run old plates back to MD, get smart tag, etc. etc. etc. so the rest of the week will be hectic) I was kinda hoping I'd find someone parting a car here though because I don't honestly know how the switches go together. As for moving the seat, I would have to pull it to do so because both switches are busted off, after I fixed it the first time both rockers fell off the switch within a matter of weeks But the PO recovered the seat and left off all the trim and handed it to me in a box and I can't figger out what is supposed to go where... yeah, I like the guy, but I'm glad he didn't "fix" more on the car than he did.

be careful opening those switches. there are four tiny and i mean tiny ball bearings that the switch floats on. the switches are available but pricey.
