If you can post the any of the charts after you put in the cam i would like to see them.
I am considering a cam from JME which should net similar horsepower, roughly 12-18hp. I am really interested in seeing how it changes the power band from stock. |

good charts, thanks.
Exactly what are the bottom two cams though? I guess the R cam was for factory race cars? Which ones? |

My take on the more-power-in-944-N/A scenario is to build an 8v 3 liter, because you get, with more or less off-the shelf parts, extra torque without the complication of the 16v head. A straight 16V 3L swap is unattractive, because: - the 3L 16V 944S2/968 need different engine loom electrics - the 16V head adds weight - the 16V head also does not breathe that well. Lots of development work in England done by Colin Belton, who owns a good Indy shop called Neinmeister, on a throttle body intake for a 968, revealed that the problem to more power wasn't the intake, but in the head). If this proves tricky (e.g. doing a custom chip might get expensive for the gains), I'll just drop in a 2.7 into my 924s and be happy. The thing has been on such a diet that even the ancient 2.5 in it moves it along quite nicely... |

How exactly does the 16V not breathe that well??? I thought thats why there are the 4 valves per cylinder was to increase air flow...? SO, your saying uping displacement on a basic 8V to 3.0L is better for torque than the 16v stock? If this is so, I'd be in bore-mode and in heaven! |
you could always remove the balance shaft belt and gain 7 hp.
Your engine may shake to death. I may just try this during my next belt tension. Remove the balance shaft belt and drive around the block. I would also like to see how much the 2.5 shakes. Speedy:) |

The technical gubbins are a bit over my head, but apparently, the 16V intake valves are a bit large & not optimally located for the cylinder scavenging the cam timing allows, so port charge-velocity is what limits power even if you add throttle bodies and mapped fuel injection. Which presumably is the reason why forced induction works so well on these engines. Another indicator is that a number of Porsche engineers consider the 2.7 8V to be the best modern 4 cylinder engine Porsche has produced: on the face of it an odd comment to make in the hierarchy of the water-cooled series. This time next year, I should be able to prove/disprove the effectiveness of a 3L 8V ;) . But I still have some lightening of the 924S to do before I play around with the engine, the suspension and braking I'm now happy with. |

I will wait with much anticipation on the 3L 8V. If it goes the way you are expecting/saying then I will def. up the displacement to 3L in mine and I'm sure there would be many followers. Has anyone ever done anything like this before on the 8V? ::excited:: |
so did Alina post under two different names on this thread?
|
Two to what power?

fabiraning944 and war944S2 were both Alina. Funny part was when she was answering herself.
dally_de's IP is different enough from the other Alina IP's... -Z-man. |
i would have bet that dally_de was alina too....i still don't get why they would want to constantly invade this board..oh well i guess it keeps you on your toes, Z-MAN!!
|
ok guy's..i'm not from US so i do not know what do u mean with ''Alina''
pls explain...and do not be rude..i am new on this forum. thank u.. |
dally_de - Alina was a person who originally came on this website and started trash-talking and insulting everyone. Her English wasn't very good because it was a second language, just like you.
Alina kept coming back after being banned - again and again under different names. So when people here see a new member whose English isn't that good, they assume it is Alina again. I am sorry that some here confused you with Alina - while your English may not be perfect, you are more than welcome to contribute to this board. And nobody is saying that you are like Alina - you are NOT rude and angry at everyone, so please don't think people here feel that way... Welcome, and I hope you stick around. We really are a nice bunch of Porsche nuts, after all! -Z-man, Pelican Parts BBS Admin. |
