ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid

I tried searching the archives, but a quick look didn't reveal the answer I was looking for. My question is, are there any compatibility issues with ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid and ordinary DOT3/4 fluid? Do lines have to be drained and flushed with alcohol?

Thanks,

Ed

You don't need to flush with alcohol.

Simply flush out the older fluid using the conventional method(s) until you see the distinct dark blue color come out of the bleeder on the calipers. It is not a good idea to mix different fluid types, but a typical brake bleed isn't that long of a job.

I just bled my brakes and used the super blue fluid about a month ago. The only problem I have now is that the pedal travel is slightly longer than what it was before I bled the lines... anybody know how to fix this? Other than that its great!

Sounds like there's still some air in the system. A good brake bleed will give you a short "solid" pedal feel.

Is the super blue DOT3, DOT4, DOT5? 3 and 4 can be mixed but it is not capatable with DOT5.

ATE SuperBlue is DOT4

One can is enough to flush the entire system. However i would just get two cans as its always good to have extra around so you can bleed the air out. Especially important if you do any type of racing.

My resevoir had little tiny specs in it, I got those out with a bent small spoon and then flushed about a cup of fresh DOT 4 through it with a power bleeder. Then I poured and bleed the system with the Super Blue.

I have front and rear 4 piston Brembos, with a hydraulic hand brake and a split front/ rear independent brake system... everything runs on SuperBlue and I love it!!!
