944 Power Steering Plug?

After replacing the pressure side power steering hose I noticed some seepage of fluid coming from a rubber plug near the driver's side rack boot. I touched it and it immediately fell off with some power steering fluid leaking out behind it. Can anyone fill me in as to what this plug is for? It disintegrated in the hole and I fished out what was left but now I'm not sure as to what I should use to replace it since I can't seem to find any mention of a power steering drainage plug. Anyone have this same problem with their power steering for an '86 944 by chance?

Mine did the same thing. If I remember there is an adjustment under the plug, it is not a drain plug. I think that if there is fluid coming out of there you may need to reseal the rack. I remember it is a 1mm thread pitch but not sure if it is 10mm or 12mm, in case you want to put a short bolt and washer in there.

Thanks! I'll try getting a short bolt and washer and then test it for leaks before proceeding.

I think this is a cross side soft line tap (equalizer). very low pressure. I'm capping mine as we speak on a manual power to steering rack conversion. You can see the picture of the plug that is simply press fit. Sorry I don't have my PET file at home or I would shoot you the Part number.

A VERY short bolt, you will have to cut it. It only needs to be about 1/2" long. On the old 924 without power steering you ground a point on a 2" bolt and screwed it into a dimple on the rack to lock the rack on dead center.

Thanks for the info guys-I have a 10mm bolt along with a rubber grommet in there now but I was also wondering if just a simple rubber plug tapped in would do the job as well? I'm not sure why a regular bolt with a washer was not put in there in the original design since it seems like it would have been a more durable fixture.
