944s2 caliper rebuild kit
 

Last weekend i took the offside 4-pot front caliper off my s2cab as i suspected a pad was stuck firm causing judder on the front when braking.
The inner pad was stuck firm and when i got it out it was being fouled by a torn 36mm caliper dust boot which had partially come away - part of the metal boot rim being stuck down the side of the pad.
Anyway i tried to order a new boot only to be told they come as part of a Brembo rebuild kit which includes seal and piston etc.
Ordered it thinking the original piston could also be stuck and damaged.
Thing is the kit's arrived - a Brembo kit with official porsche label & part number 951 351 919 01 - but there's no caliper boot with it and the piston has no lip at the top of it to indicate where a dust boot locates.
Am i right in thinking the repair kit does away with the need for a dust boot or have i been sold the wrong kit.The other 3 pistons/boots in the caliper are fine and working well and just this one needs repairing.
Any advice much appreciated.

I am not sure if it's suppose to be there or not with a rebuild kit, but I wouldn't think they would do away with the boot. That is what keeps the dirt and other abrasive things away from the piston seals unless they changed the design of the seal. Does it look like the seal is the only thing between the fluid and the natural elements? If so, then send it back and find another kit. That one will not last long and may destroy your caliper at the same time. There has to be something to keep the dirt out of the cylinder bore of the caliper.

Well i've recieved the correct kit this morning from a different dealer at under a quarter of the price.
In the picture the one on the left is the original wrong one recieved, the right-hand kit is the one i need, both Brembo.
Would the kit on the left suit a turbo 944 or are there any calipers that don't have a dust boot?There's no recess for a dust boot to fit on.

Try paragon. I believe they sell the kits w/o the pistons, assuming of course that your pistions are in good shape.

I went through this over the summer trying to find rebuild kits. The kit with the pistons is an arm and a leg and would cost you well over $200 to rebuild each caliper (kits were $50-60 each).

The seals alone are only about $15. I was however never able to find the seals on the left side seperatley, in particular the outter seal 'scraping' ring. The seals on the right of your picture are for the same type / size caliper (same mounting points also), but are used on the later 911 cars that came with the same brakes (i think the 964 had them). All of the later Brembo's, 911 and S4 calipers....etc use the boot type.

I was able to find the inner seal and outter dust boots on the right here.. http://www.zeckhausen.com/ . I never did call Paragon to ask if they sold those seals seperatley. Please let us know if they do, or if you find a place that does.

Another thing is those seals with the metal ring are a major PITA to take out. I carefully used a flat tip screwdriver to pry them out. The boot type seals are 10x easier to rebuild.

Well had a phonecall back today from the dealers i bought the (non-boot) kit from - apparently it's the wrong type for a different caliper so i'll be returning it tomorrow.
The proper kit on the right only cost me 12.34GBP ($23 or so?) from "Porsche-apart" here in the Uk for piston,seal and boot.A local bearing/seal retailers reckon they can get individual boots for me so i'll hopefully find out this weekend.

If you get the boots maybe you can post the retailers details, would be handy to know.
