Some problems I am having

Hey guys, i got some problems. I just had my belts, tensioners/rollers, front seals and water pump replaced. Slowly putting everything together. And I have some questions. When i start the car it keeps dying unles i keep up RPM at 15-1800 range, if i let go of gas RPM will drop to about 400 and car will stall out. If i slowly decrease rpm to about 1000 then it will keep on idling. It idles at about 1200 RPM sometimes it will drop down to 900 and then back up after i give it some gas and will stay at 1200 RPM again.
One thing i do not have installed yet is air filter - could that cause that?
Another question is on coolant stuff, i blead the system today and had the car running, at what point do fans have to kick in? At what point on the gauge.
Another question is I am getting a little bit of oil spitting out of exhaust and exhaust got really strong smell and quite a bit of smoke is comming out - definatelly more than out of my Liberty.

I think thats all i can think of right now. I know i will have more later

Hey, Dan, check your throttle switch. If the car runs smoothly off-idle then the switch may be toast or just not adjusted right. You could also have a sticky auxiliary air valve. Does clamping the line to it make a difference to your idle when the engine's warm? It shouldn't because a warm valve should be closed. Also suspect the DME temp sensor.

Providing your temp gauge is reading right, the fans should kick in when the needle hits near the third mark or about halfway between the second and third mark.

If you're getting smoke out the exhaust you're probably running rich. How's your fuel regulator and damper doing? Pull off the vac lines to them and check to see if they've got fuel in them. If so, they're toast. Also, rich running could be symptomatic of a faulty TPS - this may be related to your idle problem. Are you sure it's spitting out oil and not just carbon mixed with water? In this weather there's a lot of condensation in the exhaust system. Grey smoke? White? Blue? What's the smell? Raw fuel?

HTH

Here's another question, I installed my oil pressure gauge last night while my car was idling and it pegged out at 5, i had the car idling for quite a while (i wanted to warm it up and see if my rad fans kick in, they did.) but pressure stayed at pegged out all the time until i turned it off, what do you guys think this could be, and how to troubleshoot it?

you have your wires at the sender switched, or the switch is bad.

where is the switch located?

nynor 02-16-2007 12:33 PM

front of engine, towards the bottom, passenger side, i believe.

Right where Nynor indicated on the oil cooler housing....just under the oil filter.

hmm also found a leak out of oil pan gasket, leaks quite a bit actually. I cannot wait to get a new block and start complete rebuild after this summer hopefully.
