Is that much of a difference interior space between Pre85.5 and after

I'm 6'4 250, I test drove a 86 the other day and was perfect for me but the guy ended up selling it before I could get back to him. I'm still looking and cant find one in my budget range but pre 85.5 can any tell me if there really is a dramatic difference or am I being to paranoid.

I have a friend who's 6'9" and he has a hard time driving my 85/1. The wheel doesn't adjust. He fits, but it's hard for him to drive it in anything other than a straight line.

I like my 944 much better since putting in a smaller diameter steering wheel.

Like wipeout said, the wheel doesnt adjust up and down. After I broke 2 out of the 3 spokes on my early steerign wheel in my '83 I got a late 4 spoke steering wheel. The late wheel is smaller in diameter and sits about 2" closer to the driver and because of the angle of the steering shaft this lifts the wheel a little bit higher as well. I am 6'3 205 Lbs and before my kneeks would contact the steering wheel while I would heal-toe down shift but now its perfect.

I'm 6' - 2" , 200 lbs and fit fine in my 83. I do not have my seat adjusted to its maximum limit. I'm 1 to 2 clicks away from that limit (my legs aren't long enough). I also have the larger 3 spoke wheel. I recently went to the smaller diameter - 4 spoke wheel. It is about a 1" - 1 1/2" smaller in dia than the 3 spoke wheel.

It's a little easier getting in an out. The driver position, I feel, is very good. Certainly better than Corvettes of the same vintage. I feel very claustrophobic in that car; no so with my Porsche.

6'7" 255lbs no problem in my '83. The right knee under the wheel is a little tight.
I've had more than one stranger ask how I get in that little car. I always reply that it has more legroom than my Crown Vic, which is true!
Haven't driven a newer 944 in years so I don't remember.
Mine is an automatic so I think I have slightly more room for my size 15's than a manual version might have.
I don't think there where any changes that impacted the cockpit. Others here would have a lot more expertise than me on that one.
Have fun they are the best deal going if you do your own work!
