Why is it such a mystery

I need a new set of battery cables for my 87 944, neg and pos..Why is it that they are nowhere to be found, here or on the internet..I sent an email to the guy on rennlist "iceshark" for a set of his..has anyone got a set and installed them..I've read great things about them. Back to the OEM set of Porsche cables..are they Porsche only and has anyone bought them...dare i ask what you paid??

Let me know..and if anyone knows this iceshark person, is he still making cables??

IceShark (Dan Wray) is unfortunetley no longer with us, he passed away in late 2005.

Your best bet is to make your own cables.

Sets pop up for sale sporadically, but i would not wait around for one. I was lucky and picked up a set a few months back.

Just pick up a set of standard cables at any auto parts store. I'd get the highest-quality ones you can find, as these cars can be very sensitive to voltage changes.

I just picked up a good quality ground cable, and cut back my positive cable a bit, bared some clean copper, and fastened a new connector on.. works fantastic.

I do not like those bolt on battery cable ends that your FLAPS sells, if you roll your own cables hit a boat store and get the real deal. If you don't have a large gauge crimp tool they sell ones that you can solder on with a torch and then heat shrink over.

edit: just read the last post and the Arnnworx kit is exactly what I was envisioning. I think you can get battery terminals that solder on like those big round lug terminals, but his way is actually neater, and then if you need to replace the battery cable you can just buy a premade one the right length with two lug terminals on it.

(still going through 944 withdrawal... my car has been sitting at a shop for over a week now... they better get to it soon or I will have to cancel a planned trip to a swap meet and that will piss me off)

Thanks for the info..tracked down the part number for a new battery starter harness from Porsche..for the 87 944 it's part number 944 612 02 700--Battery/Starter Harness. I paid about $170 for it. I'm gonna put the heat reflecting sleeve around it to protect it from the heat.
