Turn Signal Problem

I am having a strange problem. I can turn on either the left of right turn signal with the car off and the key out of the ignition, the corresponding park light, front and rear will light. With the car on the turn signals will work as they should. I was looking at the wiring diagram and do not see a connection that would allow this to happen. I have cleaned the ground connections behind the head light thinking it might be feeding back through it but did not work. Anyone have any ideas?

You don't have a problem Brian, that is how they are suppose to work. I read something about a European law that when you park on the street and it's dark you are suppose to leave that light on to alert others or something similar to that.

This car has set for over 10 years and at some point the seals leeked and had the interior shot. In that process many of the contacts were croted, it had not done that before and it started on the passenger side then the drivers side. I have been driving it some and I guess the contacts that work this fecture has become cleaned from using it and started working. I was scratching my head how this could be, I was looking at the wiring diagrams and did not see the extra switch bank that worked this at first. I set down last night and their it was. I guess if I had taken my time and looked a little harder I would not have wasted everyones time and looked a little smarter to boot.

Brian...I too have the same problem with my '95 model 968. The turn signals stay on and do not blink. Can you help me with the location of the turnsignal/flasher relay so I can check this out. Thanks. cj

This is actually normal.

It is sometimes a problem with my 914 as I have sometimes knocked the switch with my knee when getting out of the car and later finding a dead battery but this has not happened with the 944.

All Porches and Mercedes are this way and have been for decades.

After looking at the wiring diagram a little closer I see the circuit that controls this. Just need to look a little harder next time. Also I was looking at the Haynes manual and it does not show a connection between the two switches, it shows the switch but does not show that it is part of the signal light switch. It is in a different area and does not show it is a part of the signal light switch.
