Question Watercooled or water pump?

I have a 88 944. How do I tell if it is watercooled or it has a water pump. I cant seem to find a water pump, and my manual doesn't say?

eh, it's sort-of a valid question. Since all real Porsches are aircooled (dives under desk to escape hail of rotten fruit) one might assume that the 944 would be as well, but you'd think that the bigass radiator up front might be a clue.

To answer the OP, it is indeed watercooled, and the WP is hidden and driven by the timing belt, so regular inspection for leaks and vigilance for odd noises (and replacement with the TB) is a good idea.

Your 88 944 is watercooled, and it has a water pump. The Flux Capasitor was and option...

The only reson why I asked Is i'm new to everything about porsche. I'm asking because everyone on here knows much more about the 944 than I do. So i'll probably be askin a lot of stupid questions.

The lower radiator hose is at the front of the engine on the passenger side. It connects the radiator to the suction of the water pump. The rest of the pump is buried behind the plastic belt guards. The 944 is water cooled and the water pump circulates water through the engine to absorb heat from combustion and friction. The water leaves the engine through the upper radiator hose and circulates through the radiator where the heat is rejected to the air. The pre-99 911, 914 and 356 cars were called air-cooled but actually a lot of heat was rejected through the oil cooler. As engine displacement and power increased, Porsche finally got to the point where water cooling was more economical and in 1999 changed the 911 series cars to add some water cooling to the engines. (Much to the chagrin of "purists".) Welcome to the 944. They are great Porsches and there is tremendous support for anyone willing to ask questions. There can also be some good natured (hopefully) fun poked at newbies, but we were all new at some point.

Welcome to the forum. Ask anything you want. There are lots of great people here that will help. I am new also, and have learned tons of stuff about my 944. I bought it a few months ago, and as the weather gets better i'll get to enjoy more.
