ok they dont work so i tested the relay low and high & they work

so i replaced the thermo switch on the rad and it worked for maybe 10 minutes then stopped tested relay again all is fine

so whats the odds of gettig a bad thernmo switch

the switch i purchased was a 84 deg 92 deg figured cooler is better
should i have gotten the 92 and 102 deg

did you check the fuse again?

i had this same problem on my '83, kid you not. i was pulling my hair out. then, i found that the motor on one of the fans was not quite bound up, it would turn but it was stiff. this was causing it to draw too many amps, which would sometimes cook the fuse and sometimes just cause it to build up some carbon and not work anymore. i spent HOURS on this problem. i ended up getting some lubricant into the fan motor and it freed up.

I'm not well versed on the later cars, but it sound to me as if the temperture switch on the head might not be working right.

OTOH, I've bought a bad thermo fan switch (rad) that was no good out of the box. If you have to jumper the rad switch to cool it down, you know if rad/ fan switch is good/bad.

well things are looking up, the fans are working
they turn on at about the 3rd line and shut off at the first
does this sound right
and the factory alarm is functional i , hooked up the horn
loud little bugger, i think it needs a motion switch/shock switch
any one ever add this to a factory alarm if so details

I had a problem with my fans, it turned out to be the relay socket, one of the connections to the right fan had pushed back. Due to it getting little connection it caused it to heat up and melted the socket. From the front it looked OK, I used a wire to cross it over and it worked fine. I found that the relay lead going to the coil of the relay was pushing back when I installed the relay and after getting a new relay and pluging it in I found the bad connector on the right fan, fixed t and working OK now. Mine would work sometimes and not others.

The socket construction between the early and later fuse/relay blocks are pretty much the same. There is a big difference in the relay and some of the logic used. I think www.clarks-garage.com may have a section on the later 944 cooling fan system.
