Anyone know the Part Number for this Hose?
 

Does anyone know the part number fot the hose that goes to the air filter box. This is for my 1988 N/A car and I'm talking about the hose that's about 1.5" and shaped - not the intake boot.

Porsche factory bulletin states to remove the hose and cap the openings. Direct path from the balance belt to the filter for water when the engine pulley is submerged.

Thats funny because when I look at my PET catalog, it just has a picture of the hose being plugged (just as you said) - so I've been racking my brain looking for the correct part but couldn't find it anywhere.

FYI, the part number for the S-shaped hose is 944.105.149.01. Before you get it though, disconnect the existing one from the belt housing to see if the inside of the nipple is actually drilled through. Some later ones were not. If it's not drilled through, just toss the hose and plug the nipple on the air filter box. A 1-1/8" rubber foot for a metal folding chair works and can be found at any big-box home improvement store.

The original idea of this hose was to remove heat and dust from the timing/balance belt housing. The factory later said to remove the hose and plug the nipples to prevent U-boat commanders from getting water into the airbox, potentially hydro-locking the engine causing much damage and time in drydock!

My car? The original design makes sense to me. I leave the hose on. I take my SCUBA gear out of my car BEFORE I go into the water.

Remember all those pictures in National Geographic of the water wheels and belts. The ones where the native is walking on a wheel and turning a log "belt" with pots on it?

Well the balance belt will do the same thing when the crank pulley is submerged in water. Takes about ten to twelve inches of water. You might be lucky and NOT have the baffle behind the dist cap and your engine will die first.
