				Throttle Cam

I am new to this board. Just starting to learn. I bought an 89, 944 with 67,000 miles on it. Took it to a shop to get checked out and they could find nothing wrong with it. Replaced all drive belts and tensioners. Here is my question: I added a Throttle cam. (let me just say WOW. get one if you don't have one.) But now I get more of a drop in the RPMs when I let off the gas, like to break. It did not seem to do this before with stock cam. Is this correct? Is the drop because the throttle closes quicker and the system has to recover? Is this the way it should work? I am going to put back on the stock cam just to double check. Any experience on this?

your theory sounds about right... the old cam is made to open/close slower than if it was a perfect circle... if you're chopping the accelerator off, you're giving the engine and fuel delivery system even less time to re-engage... thus causing your engine to have a lower idle for a split second.. I'm no expert, but that makes sense to me.

Agree with Eldorado. Maybe try cleannig your Idle control Stabilier (under Intake Manifold to Throttle Body) Try using Brake Cleaner in side it or such. Also new 02 sensor might help for faster adjustments.

So how hard was it to put the new throttle cam on and how much did it cost to buy one?

Search this forum "Throttle response cam mod" and it'll tell you how its done FREE! Magickingdom, it sounds like your cable is a little tight. With your engine off, touch the pedal and there should be a little "click" from the cam.

To Dave101: You can buy it online at any Porsche parts location. It took about 5 minutes to install. It does not change your horsepower, but it changes your throttle response. And let me say, it works great. You think that you have more horse power. It really helps with the acceleration. Sweet little $35 part. Get one you won't regret it.

Dave101 -- There is a guy named Russell Berry who is working on a solution called the maxtronic. I beleive support for the early boards is almost finished. Check out his site here -> http://www.maxhpkit.com The other option you have is there used to be a guy named FR Wilk who would modify your ECU to allow for chipping. Rumor has it he's back. Use him at your own risk.
