yet another 944 transplant question.....
....I was wondering, seeing as most of the car was designed around VAG parts anyway, does anyone know if the VAG 1.8t engine, as used in various Passat's/Audi's/ TT's etc, would fit - reasonably easily, to the bellhousing?
IOW, does the bellhousing pattern match the engine, and any ideas on the transplant? In case you're wondering, why - simple - annual tax. The original engine is too expensive to fix on a car I came across over the w/end, and annual tax is in excess of 1k, so, a used 1.8t engine would be............interesting.

Ah yes, taxes on motor size rather than efficiency or consumption - drives me nuts. I just don't get it. Did you know Ferrari made a special version of their 308 with a turbocharged 2.0L V8 to bypass an expensive tax - enough to have cut into their sales.
But anyway, I don't know. I'd love though to have a turbocharged motor in my 944.
