cv boot replacement
what do i need to do to replace a CV boot? its the passenger side boot closest to the transaxle. i have the boot kit already, and the 12 point bolts have been replaced with allen heads. i put my finger in there and the grease still seems clean, so it must be pretty recent and i am pretty sure the joint is still good. i'll be cleaning and replacing the grease, of course.
thanks! |
Clarks Garage has a pretty complete write-up in the shop manual area.
http://www.clarks-garage.com/ Don't tilt the inner and outer rings, until you are prepared to remove the ball bearings. If you are going to remove the ball bearings for inspection, notice that the wide part of the inner ring lines up with the narrow part of the outer ring. It will have to be reassembled this way, or it will 'lock up'. Scribe a mark across all three rings to make sure you line them back up the same. good luck JM  |
thanks, i'll check it out!

its an easy job that can be a BIG PITA. i ended up replacing the axle. |
i am a little surprised that no one has pictures of this procedure... i guess i'll take some, start to finish. unless, of course, i have as much trouble as that ^ !
