Hose & switch questions
Up to 50 deg out and lovin it. I just pulled the car cover off after a winter of hibernation. Actually I had to chop the lower edge out of the ice. I opened the hood and saw a mouse nest and a black tail run down under the manifold. Cleaned the nest out and noticed the critter had been gnawing at the cloth braiding around this rubber hose. See it just above center in the attached photo. What is this hose for? Car still started but I know it needs to be replaced.
The other question is last fall I could not keep the front windshield defroster on. The button would not click in and stay so you had to drive while holding the button in. I think it is simply a bad switch. The car is an 86 and the switch has the Recirc button on the top and windshield defrost on the bottom. Can't seam to find the switch without buying the whole climate control cluster for over $100. Thanks and Happy Spring!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174854657.jpg |
that hose goes to the charcoal canister that lives in the driver's side wheel well. unless the rubber is chewed through, i'd leave it... but i am also lazy.
as for the button, no ideas here. |
Button is for the alarm and/or the under hood light.

Check your air filter box. The mice love to nest in there.

my defrost button is the same way, once in a while it stays in by itself, i don't know where you can get one tho. you can also just slide the center knob of the climate controls all the way up and turn the fan on high instead of driving w/ your finger on the button

the difference is that the defrost button also runs the AC to remove the moisture (and i suspect, to also run the AC and its contents).

o! thank-you, i did not know that, although i had noticed that it sounds a little different!

I just replaced this same hose on my car and it cost $20. You can access the cannister by removing the inner fender well cover (7 nuts).
I see these switches on e-bay all the time and they usually sell for about $15. You might take a look and if I see another one, I'll add the link here. Vern |
