odometer-quick question
I have a 1984 944 and the speedometer works but the odometer does not. This is because the odometer gear is striped? any other reasons?
the odometer gear sometimes slides down the shaft. you will need to remove the cover of the speedo and see.
If memory serves me the odometer is driven off of the Drivers front wheel, you may need to check there too.
if the speedometer is working, the cable is working.
I vote it's the plastic gear. It's almost always the issue.

Pull the gauge down as here, and I just used a drop of supa-glu to fix it in place.

yup, gear slid, do as jezza says!
eh, maybe not, mine actually had the teeth stripped off of it, if that is the case try odometergears.com
nate |
did you reset it while the car was moving?
It came pre-busted for my convenience :)
nate |
Never ever reset the odometer while the car is moving.
the late cars break the gears, the early ones slide. yours was broken because it is a late car, and his has most likely slid. every early odometer i've taken apart that hasn't worked - has had a gear that slid.
also, never reset the odometer while the car is moving, or a pox be upon you! |
umm... the car in question is an '84. early, unless i am mistaken.
i know, my response was to toolboy
right. gotcha. :)

mine is an 83, and it's gear is stripped...

oh hell yes if you've got one! (that is, if you were talking to me.. lol)
