off topic, but... cavalier turn signal switch?

hey guys, before I scope out local junk yards, I was wondering if any of you had access to a wrecked 1990 chevy to extract it's turn signal switch that would work on a cavalier?

I believe Malibu used the same switch (for the same generation)... a couple other cars did too, not sure though of which ones..

It's my girlfriend's beater, and her turn signal relay is done... signals stay solid when signaling.

sorry for the OT, but a better (and more generous and/or diverse) group of car guys cant be had on the net..)

Sounds to me like that might be just a burned out light bulb - or possibly the flasher relay. That would be way easier than the switch

i don't think its gonna be burned out bulb as you said it does that either way you switch to. Very possibly flasher relay. usually when switch goes bad, it just doesn't work at all.

I'm pretty sure it's the relay..

the relay is in the switch/arm mechanism, like it is on our cars, i believe.

start with the bulb - cheapest things first!

Ive never heard of a relay being in the switch for turnsignals - most american cars they used to be under the dash Now they are in the fuse box like late 944's

eldorado youre flasher is bad check it by useing the hazzards
flasher unless they are one in the same some are
you still can loose one side
no clicking sound says its bad try hazzards if they click and flash
youre bulbs then they are are good

find that flasher and replace it

Eldorado 04-02-2007 04:23 PM

I'm 99% sure the relay is in the turn signal arm..

i'll get her to check the bulbs..

Eldorado 04-02-2007 04:36 PM

she says all lights seem to come on..
(she lives an hour away, otherwise i'd go check myself.. lol)

autozone lists a flasher relay for the cavalere
