Wanted na porsche 944

Hello

I recently have been looking for a daily driver to purchase and am in need for a 1983 or 1984 Porsche 944. I really need to get my hands on one before school starts in the fall. I'm looking for a decent condition 944. Don't really want a basket case since I won't really have time to do any major work. Not really a mint car, but a decent 70-90k mile 944 for a decent price. I'm looking at a price range of 3k-7k. If anyone knows of any 1983 or 1984 Porsche 944. I would right now prefer an 1984 because of cruise control and electric tilt roof, but will still have no problem taking an 83. Prefer to be Guards Red over a Black interior with a 5 speed manual. Please if anyone has one for sale let me know. Thank you

Here is an example. (84 944 Guards Red/Black) I prefer cookie cutters over Fuchs, but pretty much a my perfect spec 84 944.

83 944 example. This is exactly what I'm looking for. This is a 165k mile example. You can call it a drivers quality 944 which fits my perfect daily driver type of 944.

I think your target price should be closer to 6-10k to meet your requirements. Prices have risen for decent cars with no significant needs. Fortunately it seems that half of 944s were red, so color won't be an issue. If you are prepared to DIY belts and water pump, you are ahead of the game. Good luck in your search.

I mean the most I can afford is probably 6k or 7. Yeah I pretty much want a decent car like that 83 944 that looks really good cosmetically. I would be up for doing the belt and water pump as I would most likely would need to do it since these cars have an interference motor so why not. Thank you. If you know of any 83 or 84's in red over a black in decent condition for a solid price. Please PM me.

I think what RWPrice means is that if all you can afford is $6K for a car, you're not going to get one in that kind of condition. Not in today's market anyway, especially with low miles like what you want.

If the red car above were actually for sale it'd be a $9-10K car easily. But with your budget you need to be looking at $5K cars which are going to have issues and require more than just a $1K belt job. Not trying to dissuade you from looking but having owned 14 of these cars over the past 20+ years, it's not as easy as just finding a deal out there. Every one of them is going to require work.

Work hard, save your money, when you have $10K, give me a shout. Of course, by then it might be $15K...

Yeah. So I understand that. It turns that the car above had 165k miles and i was suprised. At this point I dont really care what miles it has as long as its in the same condition it is as that red 83 above. The 84 one was just an example of the spec because that one has 7k miles on it and I'm looking for something like that 83 100k miles, but still in decent shape. But I do understand that now theyre going back. In late 2020 i remember you can get them in decent condition like the one above for like 6k-8k. Now it seems they're starting to creep up. Also i don't really mind working on them as that is something i would like to do, but as long as its not a months and months project. Thank you again for the tips.

Agreed George - At least $10K right now today.

IMO, the pictures of the 944 is not a $10K car. It is highly optioned as well.

Good luck, make sure to check the clutch, the transaxel, alternator, timing belts, water pump, engine mounts, suspension, steering pump, fuse box, etc. Its doable, but I would advise against purchasing one if you are going to college. You will tracing problems and spending your book and tuition money fixing a piece of junk. Get a Honda civic, Then when you graduate and get that $75,000 a year job, they buy one..

Follow Freddy's advise. These cars require constant tinkering and money. Spend your time on studies and your money on tuition. I own a 1984 NA for 12 years. I love and hate it at the same time BUT I am retired and have both the time and money for it. Get a Civic until you graduate. Good luck

Agreed to what other 944 owners said. The red 944 in your picture should be way above $10k in that condition (assuming no interior problem). Saw it being said somewhere, a 30+ year old Germany car should NEVER be a daily driver because there are tons of things you need to fix/maintain if driving it daily.

For sure, and that's the second "driver" car. The concours car above it would be more like $30k in today's market... and by the time the OP graduates/lands that job, those numbers will likely be higher. Even still, the Civic is probably your best bet. Wait until you have $, or knowledge/space/tools.

These are relatively simple cars, so once they're sorted out, there's no reason that you couldn't daily, or at least 3-season a 944. Plenty of folks do.

Hello Eloutfi:

I have a Guards Red 1987 944S that I am ready to sell. I am in Washington State, so you could jump on a plane and drive home/to school.

If interested, PM me your contact information and I will send details and pictures.

I have gone through this car completely and she is a really good car. The only thing wrong with it is the driver's front seat has a couple tears.

This is the 16V model, and has a LSD transmission (like the Turbo).

Looking for $7500-$8,000 .

Too bad you aren't looking for a product, this 83 was having the engine rebuild when the tech died and it has been sitting every since, even includes a extra engine along with the disassembled one.
And is located in Florida.

A long while ago, I had a 924 as my only car -- daily driver for work and school. It wasn't a good setup for me at all because it would break when I needed to be at work or school. I was its mechanic since taking it to a shop was too expensive. Plus, a lot of shops wouldn't even work on it. It was a fun car but stressful being the only car I had at the time.

Now I have a Civic and a Silverado that are our daily drivers. My 944 is just my fun car, the way it should be.
