no, you're mixing up chassis number and VIN number...

the AA2 in the VIN denotes your car to be a US car.

remember - there's a difference between the number on the battery tray, and the VIN on the car.

How to Decode a 944 VIN
El D: I went to the link, found it not too useful on my "new" 944. Mine is a cabrio, WP0CB2947ln480800 Other than (I guess) the N means it was not a Stuttgart car, I'm still not much enlightened. Is there another site with all the perameters listed?

A: Because they can spell it.

from that site:

WP0 - Porsche
CB2 - I'm guessing means Cab with a driver and passenger airbag.
94 - first two digits that designates 944
7 - test number
L - 1990 model year
N - Produced in Neckarsulm
4 - Denotes last digit in 944
8 - Body/engine code
0800 - car 800 that was produced.

the only thing different on the site was the CB, which I'm guessing means Cab.

you've got 10 carfax reports.. might be worth going to check out

I dont think so... the best I could tell from what anyone has ever said, it's more or less a place holder...

The test number is probably like a check digit:

"a form of redundancy check used for error detection, the decimal equivalent of a binary checksum. It consists of a single digit computed from the other digits in the message." (Wikipedia)
