Retensioning new belts
I have a properly tensioned new timing belt and balance belt. I'm going to redline as many times as possible in 2 weeks at the racetrack - when should I check and retension the belts? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, would you think that applies to track miles as well?

I thought the factory interval was 1500 mile IIRC. This is where I retension.
I would personally do a 1000 mile and just check it at 2000 miles to get a "feel" for where the tension is sitting. It doesn't take too long to check and it is better to be safe than sorry. During the first 1500 miles the belts stretches and throws the tension off the most. After the 1500 miles the stretch decreases a great amount. That is why you then stretch the limit to 15000 miles. You could always drive the car 1500 miles, retension, then go racing. Speedy ![]()

Thanks speedy, I may have a tough time getting those miles in the next few weeks but I appreciate what you are saying. I was a little worried about the new belts stretching too much while at the track as I will be there for 3 days.

if i were to track a 944, i'de simply check tension everytime before going to the track, it's not that much work (assuming you don't have all the covers on a track car) to give you peace of mind
