				trailer rental for 924S

I am moving, CA to NJ, and I want to tow my 924S behind my moving truck. Penske says that their trailers won't accomodate the car (too low). Any ideas on where to rent a trailer that can carry my 924S?

it says the car is too low to get onto the trailer? ramp up to the trailer with 2x4's then...

Speedy will have to confirm, but when he bought my burned-out 944S, he put it on a U-Haul trailer.

These guys always say that their trailers won't work for your car (try getting them to say it will work for a 1938 Buick!). I would just measure the wheelbase proportions, figure out another more common car with similar dimensions and say that you need it for the other car.

See, and I'm at a loss for why they don't say they work for EVERY car...

i'm in the middle of writing a magazine article about towing porsches right now - i have had similar issues - i have just over 3" of ground clearance at the front, and about 3.75 elsewhere on my 968 - i have towed my 968 on a uhaul trailer - it had to be done backwards - i have towed it on a united rentals trailer and was able to go forward - neither had much clearance, and i had to use 6' long 2x12s on both to get it up there balance is everything on these trailers - get it as far FORWARD on the trailer as possible - do NOT attempt driving fast - the resultant sway will quickly get out of control, and the surge brakes on these trailers are not helpful once that happens | ||

Like legion said... I towed the 'S' on a u-haul flat bed car trailer. It loaded up just fine with no ground clearance issues and towed real nice behind my 1993 F-150. When I said "loaded up fine" i meant it pushed up just fine with the help of legion, his neighbor and my lovely wife. The rate was cheap as well. ~ $50 for the "local" rate. Local mileage for me was about 400+ miles in one day Speedy

I finally found that the cheapest rate was for a "one way move" from my hometown to a town about 30 miles away just over the border in NH, because I got unlimited mileage. On the way from Boston to NH I just made a little detour to Pittsburgh.

If you have your own tow vehicle, they have no way of tracking the mileage on the trailer.

Yup! you are limited by time only (60 mph X 24 hours)/2 for round trip = 720 miles So I could pick a car up from TN and drive back to Wisconsin for a trailer rental fee of $50.

or if you rent from a place like Budget (not sure if you have it in the states, but I know certain places have this service), you can return the trailer to any one of their locations, it doesn't have to be the one you rented from.
