Dumb 924s question

I was just called with an offer to buy an 87 924s. It is badged with an S on it but it has an 8 valve engine.
My question is "doesn't the 24s have the same engine as my 44s?"
I might have some parts for sale soon.

Nevermind I found out the answer. Mods can you please delete this post. I can't seem to be able to do it. Thanks

I thought that the 924s was upgraded to the n/a 944 engine (but not the 16 valve 944s)

ERAU944 04-22-2007 04:30 PM

the 924S had the regular 944 engine (an upgrade to the regular 924, iirc, they also had a different fifth gear, and less drag due to less fender). the 88 924S as i am aware had the upgraded compression that the 944 had in 88. the engines are identical, iirc, year to year.

all were 8v stock. it would be interesting to see a 924S2 (16v 924), i know of at least one 924S3 (968 drivetrain) transplant

Sometimes the Porsche nomenclature can get a little confusing. To clarify:

924 - 2.0, 8v engine
931 - 2.0, 8v turbocharged
924S - 2.5, 8v engine
944 - 2.5, 8v engine
944S - 2.5, 16v engine
951 - 2.5, 8v turbocharged
944S2 - 3.0, 16v engine
944 (1989) - 2.7, 8v engine
968 - 3.0, 16v engine with variocam

actually the post asking if the 944 was watercooled was the dumbest, IMO. they took the saying 'there is no such thing as a dumb question' too literally.

I forgot where I read it, but the 1989 924 was supposed to be badged "924S2". That would have been cool.

hpaulb 04-25-2007 06:16 AM

The 924S was only made on 87 & 88 for the US/Can. 86 in Europe.

CJFusco 04-25-2007 06:54 AM

Perhaps what Edik means is it would have been called 924S2 if they HAD produced it in 1989...

onZedge 04-25-2007 11:38 AM

Yes. If they HAD produced it, it WOULD have been the 924S2.

CJFusco 04-25-2007 07:32 PM

Which begs the question, would the 924 have gotten the 3.0?

Now THAT would have been some car.

onZedge 04-26-2007 04:31 PM

Or how about the drivetrain from a 959 !!! It would probably cost more than my first house, but at least the 944 would FINALLY have a big brother. (928 Doesn't count IMHO)
