it starts, dies then starts then doest start
My 944S just died the other day. 20minutes later it started right up. The next moring it would not start. Someone told me to check/change the DME relay, I did and it started, thought I found the problem. No, today it wont start. Put a hose on the fuel rail, plenty of fuel shooting out of the rail. Think fuel is ok. Pulled a spark plug and turned it over, plug did not spark. SO electrical problem>????? Checked the cam and crank sensor, both hooked up fine, and when you turn it over the tach slightly moves, so I think they are ok. Any ideas where/what I should do next...................help

Turn the key on and check for voltage at the injectors and at the ignition module and coil. The 944S also has a ballast for the injectors as well as the ignition module.
However this still could be the DME relay. The socket the relay plugs into can have problems with the cinch pins that grab the pin/blades on the relay.

Can you explain a few things. What is the ballast for the injectors and where is this? I will chek the coil but what is the ignittion module. You also mentioned the socket, the whole fuse area does seem to move a bit when i pulled out the old DME relay. How do I check that the cinch pins are making contact. Thanks

Rub marker pen on the DME relay pins and stick it into the socket. Pull it out and see where the contact is being made. Don't wiggle it.
follow the wires from the coil to the fender mounted module. Search for past 944S threads about the module and the injector ballasts.

Yes I changed the DME relay (new). The weird thing or it could be coincedence, I first pulled to old DME relay out, tapped it lightly, put it back in and she started. So I bought a brank new relay, put it in and yes the car started. I was putting it in the garage and it stalled, now it wont start. I tried wiggling the relay and still nothing.

Could be the ignition switch. Could be a loose relay socket. Unless you follow a set plan of testing you will just be replacing good parts with good parts.
See if www.clarks-garage.com has a testing plan for the S models. Or do an extensive search on past 944S threads.
