trans pulled,new dilemma lmao
ok well my first trans pull went rather smoothly and I got a used trans from plyhammer (thanks ply) I never noticed the broken mount in the ebay pic, im gonna leave you some trashy feedback lol...j/k.
Anyway the drive shaft in the torque tube seems to have pulled forward (towards the engine) I cant get the clamp on the shaft. For those of you who are familiar with the automatics, the clamping sleeve has to sit on the shaft exactlly where the indent between the splines are. My question is: can the shaft be pulled back (1/4' to 1/2') through the torque tube? Any help other than a( Aamco) reply would be appreciated lol

The far end of the drive shaft has a clip on it. This does two things; keeps the drive shaft from pulling back through the rubber center "flywheel" adapter and from going further into the pilot bearing than necessary.
In other words IF your rubber adapter at the flywheel is good the drive shaft is exactly where it should be. You may need to move the torque converter forward to match the drive shaft. Check that the perimeter bolts that attach the torque converter to the plate drive shaft adapter clear the transmission housing. If they hit then the torque converter is too far back.

The only thing Im putting on is the drive plate, It wont go far enough forward to put the bolt through the clamp. If it doesnt go to the indent between the splines the splines block the bolts passage.

yes, the bolt passes through the edge of the internal splined(im going to call it the clamping sleeve)
I havnt seen a diagram of the drive shaft end and im sure your familiar with it, if not, its splined about 3 or 4 inches then it tapers for the passing of the bolt, then splines again. The bolt will only pass through if it's lined up on the tapered part of the shaft. When I bolt it up to the bell housing,it comes up 1/4 to a 1/2 short of the taper. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but my gf's kid was turning the motor for me when I was trying to line everything up , to be honest I dont remember if he cranked it c/w or c/c, could it get sucked back going in the wrong direction?
